Yangwang, the luxury brand under BYD, has made a significant achievement with the delivery of its U9 supercar. The brand announced on Weibo that it has reached a milestone of delivering 100 units of the U9, marking a historic moment for Chinese supercars.
The U9 was officially launched on February 25, 2024, with a starting price of RMB 1.68 million ($230,870) for the 2-seater model. This makes the U9 the highest priced model under the BYD umbrella and one of the few supercars from a local Chinese brand to enter the market.
Entering the supercar market is no easy feat, especially for Chinese brands due to the level of acceptance required. However, the U9 boasts an impressive powertrain that delivers 1,306 Ps of horsepower and 1,680 Nm of power output, allowing the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in just 2.36 seconds.
Since deliveries of the U9 began in August of the previous year, the brand has steadily increased its sales. The number of monthly deliveries has been on the rise, with 7 units delivered in the first month and reaching a total of 88 units by the end of December 2024.
Yangwang, a sub-brand of BYD, aims to target the ultra-luxury market with models priced at the RMB 1 million level. The U8 off-road SUV was the brand’s first model, launched in September 2023 with a starting price of RMB 1.098 million. The U8 has performed well in sales, with monthly deliveries of a few hundred units throughout the past year.
In addition to the U9 and U8 models, Yangwang has also introduced the U7 sedan, which was showcased at the 2024 Guangzhou auto show. The U7 features an innovative DiSus-Z body control system that allows for unique interactive experiences, such as completing a maze game on the car’s roof under the control of a phone.
With the success of the U9 and the growing popularity of the U8, Yangwang is solidifying its position in the ultra-luxury market and making a name for itself in the competitive supercar industry. The brand’s commitment to innovation and high-quality products is evident in its impressive lineup of vehicles, setting a new standard for Chinese luxury car manufacturers.
