BYD Fang Cheng Bao recalls 6,843 Bao 5 cars for motor controller issue

Fang Cheng Bao, a sub-brand of BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY), is among the brands conducting vehicle recalls due to safety concerns. The company is recalling 6,843 units of its Fang Cheng Bao Bao 5 plug-in hybrid vehicles manufactured between October 16, 2023, and February 1, 2024. The recall is in response to a potential issue with the electrical connector bolts inside the integrated dual-motor controller not being properly locked, which could lead to smoke and fire in extreme cases.

According to China’s State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR), the loose bolts could cause arcing of the connection points during vehicle operation, posing a safety hazard. To address this issue, BYD will replace the integrated dual-motor controller for free in the recalled vehicles.

Fang Cheng Bao was officially launched on August 16, 2023, with the introduction of the Bao 5 off-road SUV in November of the same year. Following the success of the Bao 5, Fang Cheng Bao unveiled the Bao 8 in November 2024, featuring Huawei’s driver assistance system.

In December, Fang Cheng Bao achieved a record delivery of 11,418 vehicles, bringing the total deliveries for the year to 56,388 units. The brand’s strong performance in 2024 highlights its growing presence in the electric vehicle market.

Looking ahead, Fang Cheng Bao announced the launch of its new Tai series lineup, with the Tai 3 midsize SUV set to go on sale in the first half of 2025. This new lineup is expected to cater to families with a focus on rugged and practical models.

Overall, Fang Cheng Bao’s commitment to safety and innovation has positioned the brand as a key player in the competitive electric vehicle industry. With a diverse range of models and a strong focus on customer satisfaction, Fang Cheng Bao continues to make strides in the market.
