Formula E Introduces Innovative PIT BOOST Ultra-Fast Charging Feature for Season 11

In a groundbreaking move, the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship is set to unveil a revolutionary pit stop fast charging feature called “PIT BOOST” in Season 11. This cutting-edge technology showcases ultra-fast charging capabilities for electric vehicles (EVs) and is poised to redefine race strategies in Formula E.

The PIT BOOST feature provides a 10% energy increase (3.85kWh) to race cars through a 30-second and 600kW rapid recharge in the pit lane. This mandatory sporting feature surpasses the power levels of current consumer EV superchargers, highlighting Formula E’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of electric mobility.

Drivers and teams will face a new challenge as they navigate the decision-making process of when to utilize the PIT BOOST during a race. Balancing the benefits of an energy boost against the risk of losing track position adds an exciting strategic element to Formula E races.

Alberto Longo, Co-Founder and Chief Championship Officer of Formula E, expressed excitement about the introduction of PIT BOOST, stating that it will elevate the excitement for fans and showcase the series’ commitment to innovation. Marek Nawarecki, Senior Circuit Sport Director of FIA, highlighted the FIA’s dedication to pushing the boundaries of electric mobility through the introduction of PIT BOOST.

As Formula E continues to lead the way in advancing electric mobility, the PIT BOOST feature exemplifies the rapid progress in EV charging technology. Addressing key challenges in EV adoption such as charging speed and time, PIT BOOST reinforces Formula E’s role as a “race-to-road” technology platform.

Extensive testing and simulation have been conducted to ensure the safety, reliability, and race-enhancing potential of PIT BOOST. The introduction of this innovative feature marks a significant step forward in the evolution of electric vehicle technology and highlights Formula E’s commitment to driving innovation in motorsport.

With the debut of PIT BOOST in Season 11, Formula E is set to captivate audiences with thrilling races and showcase the potential of EV performance on the track. Stay tuned for more updates on this game-changing technology as the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship continues to push the boundaries of electric mobility.
