2024 best-selling sedan, SUV, and MPV ranking in China

In 2024, the Chinese domestic passenger car sales volume reached 22.608 million units, showing a 3.1% year-on-year increase. Notably, Chinese brand passenger vehicles saw a significant surge in sales, reaching 17.97 million units, a remarkable 23.1% increase compared to the previous year. On the other hand, the sales volume of domestically produced high-end brand passenger vehicles reached 4.738 million units, marking a 2.3% year-on-year increase.

Looking closely at the best-selling vehicles by type, the sedan and hatchback sales ranking revealed some interesting insights. The top spot was claimed by the BYD Qin Plus, with a sales volume of 480,025 units in 2024. This represented a 10.6% increase compared to the previous year, making it the best-selling sedan in China. The BYD Qin Plus was followed by the BYD Seagull and the Nissan Sylphy in the rankings.

In the SUV category, the Tesla Model Y emerged as the best-selling vehicle with a sales volume of 480,309 units. Following closely behind was the BYD Song Plus with sales of 418,474 units. Other notable entries in the top ten included the Aito M7 and Li L6, showcasing a diverse range of popular SUV models in the Chinese market.

Moving on to the MPV segment, the BYD Denza D9 stood out as the top-selling model for the second consecutive year. With a sales volume of 102,951 units, the BYD Denza D9 maintained its dominance in the MPV category. The overall domestic MPV retail sales in China saw a slight increase of 0.4% year-on-year, reaching 1.088 million units in 2024.

The data, sourced from 315che and Sina Finance, provides valuable insights into the Chinese automotive market’s dynamics and consumer preferences. With Chinese brands gaining traction and high-end models witnessing steady growth, the automotive industry in China continues to show resilience and adaptability to changing market trends.
