Hongqi Unveils Upcoming Tiangong 05 Pure Electric Sedan
FAW’s Hongqi brand recently revealed a sneak peek of the Tiangong 05 pure electric sedan, marking the second model in the Hongqi Tiangong series. The official launch is anticipated to coincide with the Lunar New Year celebrations and is slated for a release later this year.
The Tiangong series lineup includes a mid-size luxury pure electric SUV, a large luxury pure electric SUV, and now the luxury pure electric sedan. The Tiangong 08 SUV has already made its debut in the market, with the Tiangong 05 sedan poised to follow suit.
Derived from the Hongqi E009 concept car, the Tiangong 05 is built on the versatile Tiangong pure electric platform, designed to accommodate sedans, SUVs, MPVs, and crossover models. The front fascia retains the signature slender headlight design adorned with distinctive light units and a trapezoidal lower grille. The iconic Hongqi vertical logo now graces the front hood, replacing the original Hongqi New Energy logo.
Featuring a sleek fastback silhouette with 18-inch petal-shaped rims and concealed door handles, the Tiangong 05 exudes a modern and sophisticated aesthetic. The rear end showcases a striking “Y”-shaped taillight assembly. With dimensions measuring 4820/1915/1480 mm (L x W x H) and a 2900 mm wheelbase, the sedan offers two weight variants: 1,890 kg and 2,018 kg.
Under the hood, the Tiangong 05 is powered by an electric motor generating 210 kW (282 hp), paired with lithium iron phosphate battery packs supplied by the CATL-FAW joint venture and CATL. This setup enables the sedan to achieve impressive CLTC cruising ranges of 550 km and 750 km, with a top speed of 200 km/h. While specific powertrain details are yet to be disclosed, the performance figures hint at a promising driving experience.
Inside, the cabin boasts a vibrant orange upholstery theme complemented by a double-spoke multi-function steering wheel, a floating central control screen, and a 65-inch AR-HUD replacing the traditional instrument panel. Notably, the center console features a 50W wireless charging panel and two cup holders on the top tier, with a unique hollowed-out design that adds a touch of futuristic elegance.
In 2024, Hongqi recorded sales of over 410,000 vehicles, marking a 17.4% increase from the previous year. Following the introduction of its ambitious “All in” new energy vehicle (NEV) strategy in early 2023, Hongqi has diversified its offerings with the establishment of three sub-brands: Hongqi Golden Sunflower, Hongqi New Energy, and Hongqi Energy Saving Vehicle. The launch of the Tiangong series underscores Hongqi’s commitment to the NEV market.
With the upcoming debut of the Tiangong 05 sedan, Hongqi is poised to make a significant impact in the electric vehicle segment. Stay tuned for further updates on this cutting-edge model from Hongqi.
