The recent Chinese New Year holiday had a significant impact on the production and delivery activities of major electric vehicle (EV) makers in China. During weeks 4-5 of 2025, which coincided with the holiday period from January 28 to February 4, several EV brands experienced disruptions in their operations.

Xpeng, Li Auto, Xiaomi, Zeekr, Leapmotor, and Aito were among the companies affected by the holiday break. Xpeng led the pack with 11,100 units, followed closely by Li Auto with 11,000 units, Xiaomi with 8,500 units, Zeekr with 4,500 units, Leapmotor with 9,500 units, and Aito with 7,700 units.

Despite the challenges posed by the holiday, Nio managed to increase its insurance registrations in China. The company’s branded vehicles saw 3,300 registrations during the two-week period, up from 2,836 in the previous week. However, these figures exclude registrations for Nio’s sub-brand Onvo, which saw 1,913 registrations in the third week.

Industrial production in China was disrupted by the Chinese New Year holiday, causing delays in deliveries and impacting sales figures for the EV makers. Nio Inc delivered 13,863 vehicles in January, marking a significant increase from the previous year but a decline from the previous month.

Xpeng maintained its position as the top car-making brand, with 11,100 insurance registrations during the holiday period. The company delivered 30,350 vehicles in January, exceeding its target and showing strong growth compared to the previous year.

Li Auto also saw an increase in insurance registrations, reaching 11,000 units during the holiday weeks. The company delivered 29,927 vehicles in January, maintaining a steady performance despite the holiday disruptions.

Tesla reported 13,400 vehicles in weeks 4-5, with sales figures for January yet to be released. The company recently launched a price war by offering an insurance subsidy for all variants of the Model 3 electric sedan in China.

BYD experienced a surge in insurance registrations, reaching 68,100 units during the holiday period. The company sold 300,538 new energy vehicles (NEVs) in January, showcasing strong growth compared to the previous year.

Xiaomi and Zeekr also saw an increase in insurance registrations, with Xiaomi delivering over 20,000 units of its SU7 model in January. Zeekr delivered 11,942 vehicles in January, with plans to target 320,000 vehicles in 2025.

Leapmotor and Aito also reported an increase in insurance registrations during the holiday weeks, demonstrating resilience amidst the disruptions caused by the Chinese New Year holiday. Overall, the EV industry in China continues to show promising growth and innovation in the face of challenges.
