The Jeep Gladiator and Toyota Tacoma are two popular midsize pickup trucks that offer different features and capabilities. The Gladiator is known for its off-road prowess and unique convertible design, while the Tacoma is praised for its reliability and lower base prices.

Starting at nearly $54,000, the Rubicon and Mojave models of the Gladiator come equipped with off-road features such as Dana heavy-duty axles, rock rails, and all-terrain tires. On the other hand, the Tacoma offers more than 20 configurations with a starting price of about $33,000 for the base SR model. Both trucks come with a basic 3-year/36,000-mile warranty.

In terms of performance, the Tacoma now offers a hybrid powertrain option that delivers 326 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque. The Gladiator, on the other hand, is powered by a 285-hp V-6 engine. While the Tacoma excels in everyday driving situations with its improved ride quality, the Gladiator offers better towing and hauling capabilities, with a maximum towing capacity of 7,700 pounds.

When it comes to off-road capabilities, the Gladiator outshines the Tacoma with its standard part-time four-wheel drive system and specialized off-road models like the Rubicon and Mojave. The Tacoma, however, offers a variety of off-road-oriented models with features like a locking rear differential and off-road cruise control.

In terms of size and seating capacity, the Gladiator offers more rear seat space and a convertible option, while the Tacoma comes in various bed and cab sizes to suit different needs. The Tacoma has a more traditional styling with a blocky design, while the Gladiator resembles a lengthened Jeep Wrangler with unique features like a cloth top and retro-inspired interior.

In the safety department, the Tacoma outshines the Gladiator with its IIHS Top Safety Pick award and standard driver-assist features like automatic emergency braking and lane-departure warnings.

Overall, the Tacoma emerges as the winner in this comparison, with a higher TCC Rating of 6.3 out of 10 compared to the Gladiator’s 5.2 out of 10. Whether you prioritize off-road capabilities, towing capacity, or safety features, the Tacoma offers a well-rounded package at a more affordable price point.
