BYD expedites smart driving era with sweeping updates to 21 models

BYD, a leading electric vehicle manufacturer, is spearheading the transition to the smart driving era by introducing smart driving systems across 21 of its models. This move comes on the heels of the company’s successful electrification transition.

During a recent vehicle intelligence strategy launch event, BYD announced that smart driving features will be integrated into its entire model lineup, catering not only to high-end models but also to those priced under RMB 100,000 ($13,700). According to BYD’s chairman and president, Wang Chuanfu, high-level smart driving capabilities will soon become as essential as seatbelts and airbags in vehicles within the next 2 to 3 years.

One of the main barriers to the widespread adoption of smart driving technology has been the high cost associated with it, making it inaccessible to most consumers. To address this issue, BYD is committed to making smart driving features available to everyone by integrating them into all its models.

BYD’s smart driving system, known as “God’s Eye,” is divided into different branches. The top-tier DiPilot 600 system, which utilizes three LiDARs, is employed in the ultra-luxury sub-brand Yangwang. The mid-range DiPilot 300 system, equipped with one LiDAR, is used in the Denza brand and some premium BYD models. Finally, the entry-level DiPilot 100 system, which relies on a camera vision solution, is designed for BYD’s more affordable models.

In a significant move, BYD has updated 21 models with the Smart Driving Edition, offering smart driving features at no additional cost to consumers. The Ocean lineup includes models such as the Seagull, Dolphin, and Seal series, with prices ranging from RMB 69,800 to RMB 239,800. Similarly, the Dynasty lineup features models like the Qin Plus, Song L, and Han series, with prices starting from RMB 79,800 to RMB 235,800.

Yang Dongsheng, senior vice president of BYD Group and director of the automotive new technology research institute, emphasized the safety benefits of smart driving technology. He revealed that over 4.4 million BYD vehicles are equipped with L2 and more advanced smart driving systems, with users having driven over 3.7 billion kilometers assisted by these features.

To support the God’s Eye C smart driving system, BYD has upgraded its hybrid DM vehicle platform and pure electric e platform to the Xuanji Architecture. This move aligns with BYD’s commitment to vehicle intelligence, as evidenced by the launch of the Xuanji Architecture in January 2024, with a planned investment of RMB 100 billion in intelligence-related initiatives.

In conclusion, BYD’s proactive approach to integrating smart driving technology across its model lineup underscores the company’s commitment to innovation and safety. As smart driving capabilities become increasingly ubiquitous, BYD is at the forefront of shaping the future of mobility.
