Toyota has announced a recall of 106,061 Tacoma midsize pickup trucks due to a potential safety issue with their rear brake hoses. The affected models include certain 2024 and 2025 Tacomas with four-wheel drive, 17-inch wheels, and the smaller available brake setup. Toyota is also looking into the same problem in rear-wheel-drive trucks with the same braking system, as well as four-wheel-drive trucks with 18-inch wheels.
The issue stems from the rear brake caliper positioning, which can allow mud and dirt to accumulate inside the wheels, particularly during off-road driving. This buildup can lead to damage to the rear brake hoses, causing fluid to leak out. This fluid is essential for the brakes’ power assist to function properly, so a leak could result in reduced braking power, requiring drivers to press the pedal harder than usual to decelerate and stop.
The solution to this problem involves the replacement of both rear brake hoses on the affected trucks, a service that will be performed free of charge by Toyota dealers. Owners who may have already incurred expenses related to this issue will also be reimbursed by the automaker.
Toyota plans to notify owners of the safety risk through interim letters starting on Mar. 24. A follow-up letter will be sent when owners can schedule appointments with dealerships to have the necessary recall work done. In the meantime, concerned owners can contact Toyota’s customer service department at 1-800-331-4331 or visit Toyota’s recall site for more information. The recall reference numbers are 25TB04 and 25TA04.
The recall affects both model years of the current-generation Tacoma, with the previous generation also recently recalled for a separate issue involving loose nuts that could cause axle parts to separate. The full-size Toyota Tundra, on the other hand, has faced its own series of recalls since its most recent redesign, including issues with the transmission and engine that required replacements.
By prioritizing safety and promptly addressing potential hazards, Toyota aims to uphold its commitment to quality and customer satisfaction. Stay informed and take action to ensure the safety and reliability of your vehicle.
