Shenzhen Leads the Way in Electric Vehicle Supercharging Infrastructure
Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On February 17, Shenzhen made history by becoming the first city in China to establish guidelines for the construction of Electric Vehicle (EV) supercharging facilities. The Shenzhen Administration for Market Regulation, in collaboration with the Development and Reform Commission of Shenzhen Municipality, released the “Guidelines for the Construction of Shenzhen’s Electric Vehicle (EV) Supercharging Facility Standard System.”
The purpose of these guidelines is to set a standard framework for the development of high-quality supercharging infrastructure in the city. They cover various aspects of EV supercharging facilities, including planning, construction, and operation, providing comprehensive guidance for standardized construction.
The standard framework outlined in the guidelines includes six main aspects such as basic standards, equipment systems, and station construction. It encompasses standards for 19 specialized fields, offering scientific guidance for the standardization of Shenzhen’s supercharging infrastructure.
As of January 25, 2025, Shenzhen has already built 1,030 supercharging stations and deployed 420,000 charging piles cumulatively.

In addition to the guidelines for EV supercharging facilities, Shenzhen is also positioning itself as a global innovation hub for autonomous driving. The city is leveraging existing infrastructure to support vehicle-road coordination systems, video surveillance, radars, BeiDou navigation systems, and other sensoring facilities.
Shenzhen is focusing on equipping new buses with V2X devices and collaborating with automakers like BYD to promote pre-installed mass production solutions. This dedication to innovation and sustainability solidifies Shenzhen’s reputation as a leader in the field of electric vehicles and autonomous driving.
