Off-roading enthusiasts should be screaming for lighter batteries

The electric Mercedes-Benz G-Class has recently caught my attention, sparking my interest in the potential of electric 4×4 vehicles. While initially skeptical about loading the car with four passengers exceeding its gross vehicle weight, I couldn’t help but acknowledge the possibilities that electric technology brings to off-road driving.

In comparison to traditional ICE 4×4 vehicles, electric 4x4s offer a unique advantage in off-road performance. The instantaneous response of electric motors and electronics allows for quicker adjustments in traction control and power distribution. Unlike ICE vehicles that may experience delays in power delivery when a wheel slips, electric motors can provide immediate and precise power to individual wheels as needed. This capability could prove invaluable in challenging off-road conditions where precise control is essential.

Additionally, electric motors can replicate the power pulsation typically found in big adventure motorcycles, offering a more controlled and efficient power delivery to the wheels. This pulsating power delivery can help maintain traction in difficult terrain, ensuring the vehicle stays in motion when faced with obstacles like mud or sand.

Furthermore, the efficiency of electric vehicles at low speeds, combined with regenerative braking technology, makes range less of a concern when off-roading. With minimal aerodynamic losses and the ability to recover energy during braking, electric 4x4s can navigate off-road trails with confidence and sustainability.

Overall, the concept of electric 4×4 vehicles presents exciting possibilities for off-road enthusiasts looking for a new level of performance and control. While I may still have a soft spot for classic Suzuki 4x4s, the potential of electric technology in off-road driving is certainly worth exploring further. Let’s see where this technical evolution takes us in the world of 4×4 vehicles.
