Toyota Recalls 167,802 Sienna Minivans Due to Loose Third-Row Seat Bolts

Toyota has announced a recall of 167,802 Sienna minivans due to a potential safety issue with the third-row seat assemblies. The recall affects 2021 through 2025 models of the Sienna, which received a redesign for the 2021 model year.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), certain bolts in the third-row seat assemblies may not have been properly tightened during assembly. These bolts are responsible for attaching the backs of the 60/40 split-folding third-row seats to recliner plates on each side. If the bolts are loose, the seat may not perform as intended in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury to occupants.

Toyota has stated that only 1% of the recalled vehicles are likely to have this issue, which was discovered during a routine inspection at a production facility. As a precautionary measure, the automaker is recalling all affected vehicles to address the potential safety concern.

Owners of the affected Sienna minivans will be notified by mail starting on March 31st. Toyota dealers will inspect and tighten the third-row seat-back bolts free of charge. Owners who have already paid for this service or any related work out of pocket will be reimbursed by the automaker. If you have any questions or concerns about the recall, you can contact Toyota’s customer service department at 1-800-331-4331. The reference number for this recall is 25TA05.

The 2021 Sienna was lauded as one of The Car Connection’s Best Car To Buy 2021 nominees, thanks to its redesign and introduction of a standard hybrid powertrain. Despite this recall, Toyota remains committed to ensuring the safety and satisfaction of its customers.
