Platform-sharing can often result in the interiors of different cars looking and feeling disappointingly similar, as seen with the Volkswagen Group MEB models and various Stellantis cars. However, Porsche and Audi have made a conscious effort to avoid this by ensuring that their models have distinct characteristics.

One example of this is the Porsche Macan, which shares some components with the Audi Q6, such as column stalks, pedals, and driving positions. Despite these similarities, the Macan manages to stand out with its unique design elements. The central infotainment touchscreen is seamlessly integrated into the dashboard, rather than being perched on top, giving the interior a clean and sophisticated look. Additionally, there are physical switches lower down on the panel, including knurled rocker switches for temperature and fan speed, adding a tactile and premium feel to the cabin.

When it comes to perceived quality, the Macan offers a mixed bag. While leather-covered surfaces and high-quality switches exude luxury, some plastic materials in the center console may not meet the expectations of a vehicle in the £100,000-plus price range. However, Porsche offers a range of customization options, allowing buyers to personalize their Macan with lighter colors, wood trim, extended leather, and different seat and steering wheel options.

In terms of ergonomics and usability, the Macan excels with a well-thought-out layout. The digital technology works seamlessly alongside physical controls for essential functions, striking a balance between modern convenience and traditional usability. The driving position is excellent, with ample adjustment options for both the steering column and seat height.

While the Macan may offer slightly less space than the Audi Q6, rear passengers will still find the seating position comfortable. Optional features such as separate rear climate control and heated seats ensure a luxurious experience for all occupants. The boot space is class-typical, with a practical layout and additional storage in the frunk for charging cables and small items.

When it comes to multimedia features, the Macan’s infotainment system is shared with its Audi counterpart, running on Android Automotive. Despite this shared platform, the interface in the Macan is distinctively Porsche, resembling the exclusive system found in the Taycan. The system is quick and user-friendly, with seamless integration of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Google-based navigation is comprehensive, providing real-time traffic information and customizable route planning.

Overall, the Porsche Macan stands out as a luxury SUV with unique design elements, high-quality materials, and advanced technology features. Its balance of performance, comfort, and customization options make it a compelling choice for discerning buyers looking for a premium driving experience.
