The Kia EV4 Set to Challenge the Tesla Model 3
The upcoming Kia EV4 is poised to give the Tesla Model 3 a run for its money when it hits the market later this year. Priced at €37,000 (£30,600) and offering impressive ranges of up to 391 miles, the EV4 is set to make a splash in the electric vehicle market.
Based on the concept revealed in 2023, the EV4 shares its platform with the smaller EV3. It will be available in both hatchback and saloon body styles, with the hatchback being similar in size to the Hyundai Kona Electric and the saloon boasting a longer profile than the Model 3.
In Europe, the EV4 will primarily be sold as a five-door hatchback, competing against the likes of the Citroën ë-C4, Volkswagen ID 3, and Volvo EX40.
Powering the EV4 will be a single front-mounted motor producing 201bhp, allowing for a 0-62mph time in the mid-7.0-second range, depending on the chosen battery and trim level. Additionally, Kia plans to introduce hot GT versions with dual-motor, four-wheel-drive configurations for added performance.
The entry-level EV4 comes equipped with a 58.3kWh battery pack, offering a range of 267 miles for the saloon and 255 miles for the hatchback. Opting for the Long Range version with an 81.4kWh battery increases the range to 391 miles for the saloon and 367 miles for the hatchback.
Charging the EV4 is efficient, with a 10-80% charge taking at least 29 minutes for the smaller battery and 31 minutes for the larger one.
Inside, the EV4 features a cutting-edge 30-inch dashboard screen, comprising two 12.3-inch segments for infotainment and instrumentation, separated by a 5.3-inch climate panel. It will also be the first Kia model to integrate popular entertainment apps such as Netflix, Disney+, and YouTube.
