Changan Automobile (SHE: 000625) is making significant strides in the development of next-generation battery technology, with plans to introduce all-solid-state batteries in prototype vehicles by the end of this year. The company aims to validate the use of solid-state batteries in vehicles by 2026 and ramp up mass production by 2027.

The all-solid-state batteries, known as Jinzhongzhao, boast an impressive energy density of up to 400 Wh/kg, offering a range of over 1,500 kilometers on a single charge. This breakthrough in battery technology aims to address range anxiety and improve the overall driving experience for customers.

In addition to Changan, other prominent players in the industry are also gearing up to produce all-solid-state batteries. BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) and CATL (SHE: 300750) are planning to produce these advanced batteries in small batches by 2027, signaling a collective push towards next-generation energy storage solutions.

The transition from traditional liquid lithium batteries to all-solid-state batteries represents a significant leap in energy density, with the latter expected to reach 500 Wh/kg. This advancement not only enhances performance but also addresses safety concerns associated with liquid battery technology.

Changan’s commitment to innovation and sustainable energy solutions aligns with the broader industry trend towards electrification and clean mobility. By investing in cutting-edge battery technology, the company aims to stay ahead of the curve and meet the evolving needs of customers.

As the automotive sector continues to embrace electrification, the development and adoption of all-solid-state batteries are poised to play a key role in shaping the future of mobility. With Changan and other industry leaders driving this innovation, the transition towards a greener and more efficient transportation ecosystem is well underway.
