BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) is gearing up to launch its all-electric mid-size sedan, the Qin L EV, on March 23. This launch date was announced by Lu Tian, the general manager of sales for BYD’s Dynasty lineup, on Weibo today. The Qin L EV, which was initially rumored to be launching on March 12, will now make its debut later this month.
The Qin L EV is a pure electric sedan designed to target a younger demographic. It made an appearance in a regulatory catalog released by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) on January 10. The sedan boasts a length of 4,720 mm, a width of 1,880 mm, a height of 1,495 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,820 mm.
Powered by an electric motor with a maximum power of 110 kW and a top speed of 160 kilometers per hour, the Qin L EV promises to offer smart driving capabilities. BYD began teasing the model on February 24, highlighting its appeal to a younger audience.
While there is no official pricing information available for the Qin L EV yet, its hybrid counterpart, the Qin L DM-i, is currently offered in five variants in China with starting prices ranging from RMB 99,800 ($13,780) to RMB 139,800. The Qin family, which includes models like the Qin Plus DM-i and the Qin Plus EV, has been a popular lineup for BYD, selling over 700,000 units in 2024.
The Qin L EV launch comes as BYD continues to expand its electric vehicle offerings. The company has been making strides in the NEV market, with models like the Denza N9 targeting the luxury SUV segment. With the Qin L EV set to hit the market later this month, BYD is poised to make a significant impact in the mid-size electric sedan segment.
