Arevon Energy has successfully completed one of the largest solar + battery storage projects in the US, located in Mojave, California. The Eland Solar-plus-Storage Project combines an impressive 758 megawatts (MWdc) of solar capacity with 300 MW/1,200 megawatt hours of battery storage.
Eland 1 was the first phase of the project to reach commercial operation in December 2024, with Eland 2 following suit recently. Together, the two phases boast a total of 1.36 million solar panels and 172 lithium iron phosphate batteries (LFP).
The power generated by Eland 1 & 2 is substantial, with the capability to power over 266,000 homes annually. Additionally, these projects are set to provide 7% of the total electricity needs for the city of Los Angeles.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass expressed her excitement about the impact of Arevon’s Eland Solar-plus-Storage Project on the city’s clean energy goals. She stated that the project would elevate the city’s clean energy share to above 60%, marking a significant milestone in Los Angeles’ journey towards being powered by 100% clean energy by 2035.
Not only has the completion of Eland 1 & 2 contributed to sustainability goals, but it has also created around 1,000 jobs during the construction phase. Furthermore, the project is expected to inject more than $36 million in local government payments throughout its operational lifetime.
Arevon Energy’s Eland project operates under a long-term power purchase agreement with the Southern California Public Power Authority. This agreement will be managed by two of its members, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power and Glendale Water and Power. The engineering, procurement, and construction activities for the project were led by SOLV Energy, a company based in San Diego.
Looking ahead, Arevon Energy has an extensive portfolio of solar and battery storage projects, with over 4,500 MW operating across 17 states and more than 6 GW of new projects in development.
As the renewable energy industry continues to grow, projects like Eland 1 & 2 are crucial in advancing clean energy initiatives and reducing carbon emissions. With the completion of this groundbreaking project, Arevon Energy has solidified its position as a key player in the transition to a more sustainable energy future.
