Ample, a US-based company specializing in battery swapping technology for electric vehicles (EVs), has recently received a $25 million investment from Mitsubishi Corporation. This strategic collaboration aims to expand Ample’s battery-swapping business by leveraging Mitsubishi’s expertise in mobility, renewable energy, and battery recycling to accelerate sustainable energy solutions.
Khaled Hassounah, CEO of Ample, expressed excitement about the partnership, stating that Mitsubishi’s investment and industry knowledge will be invaluable as they scale their battery-swapping infrastructure and advance their technology.
Ample has already made significant progress in expanding its battery-swapping infrastructure since its last funding round. The company has started operations in Japan and formed partnerships to accelerate the deployment of swapping services.
Additionally, Ample has partnered with leading OEMs such as Stellantis and Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (a part of Daimler Truck) to integrate its technology with various EV models.
In a related development, Mitsubishi Electric Mobility and Aisin recently formed a business partnership to develop products for next-generation xEVs. This move reflects the evolving demands of vehicle electrification and a strategic reallocation of corporate resources.
Furthermore, Nissan and Mitsubishi have launched a joint venture to provide Level 4 autonomous EV services by the end of fiscal 2024. The JV will offer passenger transport using self-driving electric vehicles, with verification tests set to commence in 2025. Both companies will equally fund the venture.
Overall, these collaborations and developments highlight the growing emphasis on sustainable energy solutions and innovative technologies in the automotive industry. The integration of battery-swapping technology and autonomous services is poised to shape the future of electric mobility and drive towards a more sustainable and efficient transportation ecosystem.
