Aptiv Expands Presence in China with New R&D Center in Changshu City

Aptiv, a leading provider of automotive technologies, recently signed an agreement to establish a new Research and Development (R&D) center in the Changshu National New & Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone. This move aims to enhance the local automotive and components industry’s presence in the emerging smart driving sector.

The Changshu R&D center will be Aptiv’s third hub in China, joining its existing facilities in Shanghai and Suzhou. This new center, part of the company’s Active Safety & User Experience division, will focus on developing advanced software and hardware technologies for next-generation automotive platforms. These technologies will cover a wide range of areas, including active safety, intelligent connectivity, cybersecurity, infotainment, and user experience systems. Additionally, the center will house Aptiv’s China Data Center and Testing Center, further solidifying the company’s commitment to expanding its presence in China’s intelligent and connected vehicle sector.

During the signing ceremony, Qin Meng, the Mayor of Changshu city, praised Aptiv’s longstanding presence in China and its expertise in automotive technologies. The establishment of the R&D center in Changshu is expected to boost Aptiv’s market share and competitiveness while filling critical gaps in the local automotive industry. Mayor Qin reiterated the city’s support for Aptiv’s growth by providing high-quality infrastructure, efficient logistics, and a robust industrial ecosystem. He expressed hope that Aptiv would lead the way in attracting more industry players to settle in Changshu.

Simon Yang, President of Aptiv China and Asia-Pacific, highlighted Changshu’s status as a hub for leading technology companies and a prosperous region for business. Located in the Yangtze River Delta, Changshu offers a well-established automotive ecosystem, making it an ideal location for Aptiv’s new R&D center. The synergies between the Changshu center and Aptiv’s existing facilities in Shanghai and Suzhou will leverage the advantages of the “Yangtze River Delta Integration” strategy, ultimately benefiting Aptiv’s automotive clients in China and fostering the region’s automotive industry ecosystem.

The new R&D center underscores Aptiv’s commitment to advancing automotive technologies and contributing to the growth of the local industry.
