Audi replaces indicator stalks with buttons for new £38,300 Q3

The third generation of the Audi Q3 has made its grand return, boasting a fresh design and a revolutionary interior operational change. This popular model from the German car maker has sold over two million units worldwide since its initial launch in 2011, and the latest version is set to hit the market in September with a starting price of £38,300.

One of the most striking updates to the new Audi Q3 is its redesigned interior. Traditional control stalks have been replaced by a new solid block with buttons, known as the ‘steering wheel control unit’. This innovative feature consolidates functions such as drive selection, light operations, windscreen wipers, and indicators into a sleek panel of physical buttons, eliminating the need for movable stalks. Customer feedback on this new control unit will determine if it will be implemented across the entire Audi range.

Audi follows in the footsteps of Tesla, which made a similar attempt to reinvent operational stalks with the Model 3. However, after receiving feedback, Tesla reverted back to traditional indicators in the updated Model Y. In addition to the new control unit, the removal of the gear lever in the Q3 has created space in the center console for cup holders and a wireless charging pad. The cabin is further enhanced by a 12.8-inch infotainment screen and an 11.9-inch instrument cluster.

On the exterior, the Audi Q3 flaunts a fresh design that deviates significantly from its predecessor. Drawing inspiration from the new A6 Avant, the crossover features slimmed LED lights at the front and a distinctive light bar and rear light design at the rear. Like many new vehicles from the VW Group, the Q3 sports an illuminated rear badge for added flair.
