Audi S5 Review 2025, Price & Specs

The latest iteration of the Audi S5 may not boast a significant increase in power compared to its predecessor, with 362bhp under the hood. However, this sports saloon still delivers an enjoyably quick performance on the road. While the BMW M340i offers slightly more power at 369bhp, the S5 holds its own with a 4.3-second 0-62mph time, proving to be a formidable contender in the segment.

In terms of straight-line speed, the S5 is on par with the BMW M440i xDrive, showcasing impressive acceleration up to 80mph. The V6 engine in the S5 is refined and smooth, delivering power in a subtle manner that sets it apart from more boisterous competitors. Even in Dynamic mode, the exhaust note remains civilized, making for a refined driving experience.

Inside the cabin, the V6 engine emits a sound reminiscent of the BMW M340i’s straight-six, with a smooth and breathy character. The hybrid system adds a new dimension to the powertrain, allowing for efficient city driving and reduced fuel consumption. The battery-powered motor provides a slight whine during acceleration and regenerative braking, enhancing the overall driving experience.

However, some drawbacks are noted in the S5’s transmission system. The seven-speed dual-clutch automatic lacks the smoothness of an eight-speed torque-converter automatic, leading to occasional lurches and clattering during gear shifts. Additionally, switching between petrol and electric power can result in whirring noises, indicating a need for further refinement in the drivetrain technology.

Overall, the Audi S5 impresses with its balanced performance and refined driving dynamics. While it may not be a drastic departure from its predecessor in terms of power output, the S5 offers a sophisticated driving experience that will appeal to those seeking a blend of speed and comfort on the road. With its sleek design and innovative hybrid technology, the S5 is a worthy contender in the sports saloon segment.
