Avatr, a new player in the Chinese electric vehicle market, has introduced its latest model, the Avatr 12 EREV. This Extended Range Electric Vehicle offers up to 1,155 km of mixed range and starts at a competitive price of 269,900 yuan (37,900 USD). Powered by a 310 hp sodium-containing Freevoy LFP battery from CATL, the Avatr 12 EREV aims to attract environmentally conscious consumers looking for a reliable and efficient electric vehicle option.

Established in 2018 as a joint venture between Changan and Nio, Avatr has seen its fair share of challenges in the Chinese market. With slow sales in the first nine months of 2024, the brand struggled to meet its annual sales target. However, with a strategic partnership with CATL and Huawei, Avatr is now focusing on EREV technology to boost its domestic sales and regain its footing in the competitive EV market.

The Avatr 12 EREV features a sleek design with a closed front end, retractable door handles, and optional cameras instead of side-view mirrors. Inside, the spacious liftback offers five seats and a high-tech interior with a 35.4-inch screen and floating touch screen. The premium sound system with 16 speakers ensures a luxurious driving experience for passengers.

Under the hood, the Avatr 12 EREV is equipped with a 1.5-liter ICE that acts as a generator to power the electric motor. With 231 kW (310 hp) and 367 Nm of torque, the Avatr 12 EREV accelerates from zero to one hundred in just 6.7 seconds. The highlight of the EREV variant is the CATL Freevoy battery pack, which boasts LFP chemistry with sodium elements for enhanced durability and a capacity of 39.05 kWh.

The Avatr 12 EREV can drive up to 245 km on a full charge and has a mixed range of 1,155 km. The Freevoy battery supports 4C charging technology, allowing for a quick charge of 30-80% in just 15 minutes. Available in two trim levels, Max and Ultra, the Avatr 12 EREV offers luxury features such as air suspension, ventilated rear seats, and a premium sound system with 25 speakers.

Looking ahead to the 2025 model year, Avatr also offers the Avatr 12 EV with RWD or 4WD options. Powered by a 94.5 kWh ternary NMC battery, the all-electric Avatr 12 BEV provides a range of 705-755 km. With five trim levels to choose from, the 2025 Avatr 12 BEV caters to a wide range of consumers with prices ranging from 289,900 to 429,900 yuan (40,500 – 60,350 USD).

In conclusion, Avatr is making strides in the Chinese EV market with its innovative EREV technology and strategic partnerships. The Avatr 12 EREV and Avatr 12 BEV offer impressive performance, range, and luxury features, making them attractive options for eco-conscious consumers seeking a premium electric vehicle experience.
