Avatr Technology, a prominent electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer with backing from major players like Changan Automobile, CATL, and Huawei, has introduced the updated Avatr 12 amid recent speculation about its drag coefficient.

The 2025 Avatr 12 was unveiled at a launch event with a starting price of RMB 269,900 ($37,360), slightly higher than its predecessor. This new model offers two extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variants and four battery electric vehicle (BEV) variants.

The EREV variants start at RMB 269,900 and RMB 289,900, while the BEV variants range from RMB 289,900 to RMB 429,900. Avatr is also offering a limited-time discount of RMB 10,000 on all variants of the updated Avatr 12 until May 31.

Compared to the 2024 Avatr 12, which only had BEV options, the 2025 model becomes the third Avatr vehicle to provide both BEV and EREV options, following the Avatr 07 and the updated Avatr 11 SUVs.

The Avatr 12 is a five-seater mid-to-large-size sedan with dimensions matching its predecessor. The EREV variants are single-motor rear-wheel drive models with a peak motor power of 231 kW and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds. They are powered by the Freevoy Battery from CATL with a capacity of 39.05 kWh and a CLTC battery range of 245 kilometers.

The BEV variants are powered by a Li-ion ternary battery pack with a capacity of 94.53 kWh and a CLTC range of 705 km to 755 km. The entry-level BEV variant is a single-motor rear-wheel drive model with a peak motor power of 237 kW, while the other three variants are dual-motor models that can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds.

Recently, a video questioning the Avatr 12’s drag coefficient surfaced, prompting a response from Avatr inviting Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, to witness a wind tunnel test of the vehicle. Avatr dismissed the claims made in the video and clarified the situation on Weibo.

With the launch of the updated Avatr 12 and ongoing developments regarding its drag coefficient, Avatr continues to make strides in the EV market. Stay tuned for more updates on this innovative electric vehicle.
