The PPE Platform: A New Era for Bentley
With the introduction of the PPE platform, Bentley is ushering in a new era of luxury electric vehicles. This platform offers a range of layout options, including single- and twin-motor configurations, with the latter providing all-wheel drive capabilities. The flexibility of the PPE platform allows for various battery sizes and motor types, while its 800V architecture enables ultra-fast charging, setting new standards in the EV market.
Bentley’s design chief, Robin Page, has hinted at the upcoming model retaining the brand’s iconic design cues while incorporating a fresh front-end design to signify the absence of a combustion engine. The integration of Bentley’s Mulliner customisation division is expected to elevate the model’s luxury appeal, providing customers with bespoke options to tailor their vehicle to their preferences.
By opting to produce an ‘urban SUV’, Bentley is positioning its first EV in a unique space, distinguishing it from competitors like the Rolls-Royce Spectre saloon and solidifying its presence in the electric vehicle segment.
Crewe Development: A Vision for the Future
As part of its Beyond100+ business plan, Bentley is embarking on a significant transformation of its manufacturing infrastructure at the historic Crewe plant. This initiative aims to modernize the facility and prepare it to be the production hub for the brand’s next generation of vehicles.
The investment program, largely self-funded by Bentley, will encompass the establishment of a new design center, paint shop, and EV assembly line, showcasing cutting-edge digital, flexible, and high-value manufacturing practices. The goal is to elevate the Crewe plant into a state-of-the-art “dream factory” tailored for Bentley’s electric future.
All vehicles slated for production between 2026 and 2035 will undergo design and development at Crewe, solidifying the site’s pivotal role in Bentley’s operations. While the possibility of manufacturing certain models at other VW Group sites remains open, the focus is on consolidating production at Crewe to ensure consistency and quality across the product lineup.
Looking ahead, Bentley’s commitment to electrification is evident, with plans to introduce a lineup of EVs and plug-in hybrids between 2026 and 2030. The brand’s decision to avoid offering vehicles with a choice of powertrains underscores its dedication to delivering the best possible luxury experience to customers, prioritizing performance and efficiency in all aspects of vehicle development.
