The BMW Group and Tata Technologies have officially launched a new joint venture called BMW TechWorks India. This joint venture will have offices in Pune, Bengaluru, and Chennai. Initially starting with 100 employees across these three locations, the joint venture aims to rapidly scale up to a four-digit number of employees by the end of 2025, with a strong emphasis on attracting top-tier Indian talent. Both the BMW Group and Tata Technologies hold a 50% share in this JV.
BMW TechWorks India will focus on engineering scalable software solutions for next-gen vehicles, aligning with BMW Group’s global strategy. Tata Technologies will leverage its expertise across the entire product value chain to drive key software projects for BMW Group’s premium mobility solutions. The joint venture will also tap into India’s exceptional engineering and IT talent to develop strategic software solutions for Software-Defined Vehicles (SDVs), automated driving, digital infotainment, and automotive digital services.
In addition to automotive software, BMW TechWorks India will provide digital innovations for BMW Group’s Business IT, accelerating the digital transformation of the car manufacturer’s global production network, enhancing the digital customer journey, and improving sales processes. The joint venture will also focus on developing AI applications and platforms to boost the speed and efficiency of core business processes.
The management team of BMW TechWorks India includes executives from both partner companies. Aditya Khera and Sweta Girinatham from Tata Technologies will serve as CEO and CFO, respectively, while Oliver Scheickl and Stefan Flader from BMW Group will hold key operational roles.
Christoph Grote, Senior Vice President of Electronics and Software at BMW Group, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, highlighting India’s software talent as a valuable asset for developing innovative automotive digital experiences. Alexander Buresch, CIO and Senior Vice President of BMW Group IT, emphasized the strategic importance of the partnership in developing innovative software solutions along the value chain.
Warren Harris, CEO and MD of Tata Technologies, underlined the commitment to driving innovation in automotive software and business IT through the joint venture. Nachiket Paranjpe, President of Automotive Sales at Tata Technologies, highlighted the company’s expertise in automotive technology and end-to-end solutions across the value chain.
