BMW Group recently announced their 2024 sales figures in the Chinese market, showing a total delivery of 714,500 vehicles under both BMW and MINI brands. Despite a 13.4% year-on-year drop compared to the previous year, the company remains a significant player in the Chinese automotive industry.
Highlights of the sales report include the success of the China-made BMW X5, which achieved annual sales of nearly 90,000 units. The all-new BMW 5 Series also maintained monthly sales exceeding 10,000 units throughout the fourth quarter of 2024.
In the battery electric vehicle (BEV) segment, BMW Group saw a 7.7% year-on-year increase in sales of BMW- and MINI-branded BEVs, accounting for 15% of total sales in China. By the end of 2024, the company had delivered over 400,000 new energy vehicles (NEVs) in the Chinese market.
Looking ahead to 2025, BMW Group plans to focus on the Chinese market across all business areas. They are set to introduce over 10 new BMW-branded models, as well as multiple MINI and BMW Motorrad models. The highly anticipated all-new BMW X3 Long-wheelbase Edition is scheduled to debut in February, featuring upgraded interiors and powertrain. The BMW M series will also expand its lineup with the introduction of the BMW M235L Four-door coupe.
On the research and development front, BMW Group will unveil the BMW Neue Klasse models in China this year. At CES 2025, the company showcased the new BMW Panoramic iDrive system, equipped with the innovative BMW Operating System X developed with local user preferences in mind.
In terms of intelligent driving technology, the BMW Neue Klasse models will feature the latest advanced driving assistance system, developed in collaboration with BMW China’s R&D team.
BMW Group is also committed to green energy initiatives. Since 2019, the company has used renewable electricity for vehicle production at their Shenyang production base, with geothermal energy introduced for heating in 2024. By 2023, BMW Brilliance had reduced per-vehicle CO2 emissions and water consumption, demonstrating their dedication to sustainability. Additionally, the group has implemented a closed-loop recycling system for retired batteries of all BMW BEV models sold in China.
The future looks bright for BMW Group in the Chinese market, as they continue to innovate and adapt to meet the evolving needs of their customers.
