The Toyota and Suzuki alliance is set to unveil its latest product, the Urban Cruiser, at the Brussels Motor Show in January. The new model, which bears a resemblance to the Suzuki eVX concept and the new series production e Vitara, is a 4,285 mm long front- or all-wheel drive SUV. It will be manufactured at Suzuki’s Hansalpur plant in Gujarat and exported to Toyota Motor Europe’s markets.
The Urban Cruiser will offer a choice of 49 kWh and 61 kWh battery packs, providing an electric alternative to the existing Yaris Cross Hybrid in the B/C segments. The vehicle will share a 2,700 mm wheelbase and architecture with the e-Vitara, both utilizing Suzuki’s new Heartect-e platform.
In its front-wheel-drive configuration, the Urban Cruiser will come equipped with a 106 kW motor for models with the 49 kWh battery and a 128 kW motor for those with the 61 kWh battery. Both variants will have a torque of 189 Nm. The all-wheel-drive version of the Urban Cruiser will feature outputs of 135 kW and 300 Nm, with the second motor positioned on the rear axle.
Sales of the Urban Cruiser are slated to begin in left- and right-hand drive European markets in the third quarter of the upcoming year. With its electric powertrain options and stylish design, the Urban Cruiser is poised to compete with models like the Volvo EX30 and Kia EV3 in the European market. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting new addition to the Toyota and Suzuki lineup.
