BYD Secures 1000 Pre-Orders for Atto 3 Model in South Korea
BYD has made a strong entry into the South Korean market with its Atto 3 model, securing 1000 pre-orders just a week after its official launch in the country. This marks a significant milestone for the Chinese automaker as it expands its presence in the global electric vehicle market.
The Atto 3 is the first model to be launched in South Korea, with the Seal sedan and Sealion 7 SUV set to follow. Customers can expect deliveries of the Atto 3 to begin in mid-February, offering them a choice between the Standard and Plus configurations. The Standard version is priced at 31 million won (21,650 USD), while the Plus version comes in at 33 million won (23,050 USD).
Interestingly, 90% of the pre-orders have been for the Plus version, indicating a strong demand for the higher-end model. Sales of the Seal and Sealion 7 will commence later this year, as BYD closely monitors their reception in the market before introducing additional models.
Both versions of the Atto 3 available in South Korea are equipped with a 60.48 kWh battery, providing a quoted range of 321 km. The electric SUV features a 150 kW motor and boasts a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 7.3 seconds, offering impressive performance for eco-conscious drivers.
BYD has strategically partnered with six officially authorized dealers and established 15 showrooms and 11 service centers across South Korea to provide comprehensive support for customers. This network ensures that buyers have easy access to sales and after-sales services for their BYD vehicles.
While this is the first time BYD has introduced passenger cars in the South Korean market, the company has a history of selling commercial vehicles in the country since 2016. Notably, BYD’s presence in North Korea dates back to 2011 when its F6 cars were used as police vehicles during Kim Jong-il’s funeral. More recently, a rebadged BYD Han EV has been marketed in the North Korean market, showcasing the brand’s versatility and adaptability in different regions.
With a strong start in South Korea, BYD is poised to make a significant impact in the electric vehicle market, offering innovative and eco-friendly solutions for customers. The company’s focus on sustainable mobility and customer satisfaction sets it apart as a leader in the industry.
