BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has officially launched the pre-sales of the Seal 05 DM-i hybrid sedan in China, marking the debut of the fifth model in the Seal family. This new addition targets the affordable family sedan market and aims to further enhance BYD’s presence in the new energy vehicle (NEV) sector.

The Seal family, which includes popular models like the Seal 06 GT, 2025 Seal sedan, Seal 07 DM-i, and Seal 06 DM-i, has been a significant contributor to BYD’s overall sales. In 2024 alone, the Seal family sold a total of 389,339 units, accounting for 9 percent of BYD’s full-year NEV sales. This strong performance highlights the popularity and demand for these models in the market.

The Seal 05 DM-i comes equipped with BYD’s advanced fifth-generation DM (Dual Mode) technology, offering ultra-low fuel consumption and an impressive range. The model is available in three variants, with starting prices ranging from RMB 89,800 to RMB 109,800. This pricing strategy aims to cater to a wide range of customers with varying preferences and budgets.

Zhang Zhuo, general manager of the Ocean lineup at BYD, expressed excitement about the launch of the Seal 05 DM-i, emphasizing that it will complement the existing product lineup and meet the diverse needs of users. The model’s specifications, including its dimensions and powertrain details, have been officially listed on the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) regulatory catalog.

With the Seal family becoming one of BYD’s key product lines, the company has witnessed significant success in the NEV market. In December 2024, BYD achieved a record sales figure of 514,809 vehicles, with the Seal family contributing 8.92 percent of the total sales. Throughout the year, BYD’s NEV sales reached 4,272,145 units, with the Seal family accounting for 9.11 percent of the sales volume.

With the continued expansion of the Seal family and the introduction of innovative technologies, BYD remains at the forefront of the electric vehicle industry, driving sustainable mobility solutions for the future.
