BYD Celebrates Milestone with First Passenger Vehicle Rollout in Brazil
BYD reached a significant milestone today as it unveiled the first passenger vehicle produced at its Brazilian plant in Camaçari, Bahia. This achievement signifies a new chapter in BYD’s global expansion strategy, accomplished in just 15 months from the groundbreaking ceremony to the first vehicle coming off the production line.
Back in July 2023, BYD announced its ambitious plans to establish a comprehensive production complex in Camaçari, consisting of three factories, with a total investment of 5.5 billion Brazilian Reais (approximately 1 billion US dollars). The new energy vehicle (NEV) production line at this facility will focus on manufacturing both pure electric and plug-in hybrid models, with an annual capacity target of 150,000 units. This initiative is projected to generate 20,000 local job opportunities. Additionally, BYD will collaborate with various local supply chain partners to create a localized industrial cooperation model, promoting the sustainable growth of the NEV industry chain.
In the first quarter of this year, BYD’s sales in Brazil surpassed 20,000 units, solidifying its position as the leading player in new energy vehicle sales in the region. By May, BYD had climbed to the fourth spot in Brazil’s automotive brand retail sales rankings, capturing a notable market share of 9.7%.
Over the past few years, BYD has been actively expanding its presence in overseas markets. Currently, BYD’s new energy vehicles are available in six continents and over 110 countries and regions worldwide. In the first half of this year, BYD’s overseas sales exceeded 470,000 units, representing a remarkable year-on-year growth of 132%. The company is optimistic that its full-year overseas sales will surpass 800,000 units in 2025. Looking ahead, BYD remains committed to pursuing a development strategy that combines internationalization with localization.
The journey of BYD in Brazil is a testament to its dedication to sustainable transportation solutions and its commitment to driving the global transition towards electric mobility. With the rollout of the first passenger vehicle from its Brazilian plant, BYD is poised to make a significant impact in the region’s automotive industry and contribute to a greener future for all.
