BYD’s premium new energy vehicle (NEV) brand Denza introduced several new variants for its D9 MPV at the 2025 Chengdu auto show, aiming to make the model more accessible to consumers by lowering its starting price. The new variants include three plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) options and one battery electric vehicle (BEV) variant.

With the new variants, the starting price for the Denza D9 MPV has been reduced from RMB 339,800 to RMB 309,800. This move is expected to attract more customers to the brand and increase sales volume. In July alone, Denza sold a total of 11,375 units, with a significant portion of 8,331 units being the D9 MPV.

The new PHEV variants come equipped with BYD’s fifth-generation DM technology, featuring a powertrain that includes a 1.5L engine and an electric motor capable of delivering a maximum power output of 115 kW. These models also boast 40-kWh battery packs, offering CLTC ranges of up to 200 km or 190 km, with a combined range of 1,100 km or 1,020 km when fully charged and fueled.

On the other hand, the new D9 MPV BEV variant features a 103-kWh BYD Blade Battery, providing a CLTC range of 620 km, making it a compelling option for consumers looking for an all-electric vehicle with an impressive range.

The Denza D9 MPV has been a popular choice since its debut in August 2022, with deliveries starting in October of the same year. In addition to the D9, Denza’s lineup includes the N7 SUV, N9 SUV, and Z9 sedan series, catering to a diverse range of consumer preferences.

In terms of sales performance, Denza recorded 11,375 units sold in July, marking a 10.01 percent year-on-year increase. However, this figure represents a 27.93 percent decrease from the previous month. The breakdown of July sales includes 8,331 units of the D9 MPV, 816 units of the Z9 series, 2,104 units of the N9, and 124 units of the N7.

Overall, the introduction of new variants for the Denza D9 MPV showcases the brand’s commitment to innovation and meeting the evolving needs of its customers. With a more competitive starting price and improved features, Denza aims to maintain its position as a leading player in the premium NEV market.
