BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has officially unveiled its latest addition to the electric vehicle market, the all-electric sedan e7. This new model is expected to cater primarily to the shared mobility sector, offering a practical and efficient option for those in need of reliable transportation.

The BYD e7 comes in three different variants, with prices starting at RMB 103,800 ($14,400), RMB 109,800, and RMB 115,800 respectively. To entice early buyers, the company is offering a limited-time discount of RMB 5,000 for purchases made before June 30, bringing the starting price down to RMB 98,800.

Unlike other models in the BYD lineup, such as the Dynasty and Ocean series, the e7 is a standalone offering that is showcased on the company’s corporate customer-focused website. This platform caters to cab services, ride-hailing companies, and business fleets, highlighting the e7’s suitability for commercial use.

The design of the BYD e7 is sleek and modern, with dimensions of 4,780 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width, and 1,515 mm in height. It boasts a wheelbase of 2,820 mm, providing ample interior space for passengers and cargo. The electric motor powering the e7 delivers a peak power of 100 kW, enabling a top speed of 150 kilometers per hour.

In terms of range, the BYD e7 offers two battery pack options: 48 kWh and 57.6 kWh. These configurations provide respective CLTC ranges of 450 kilometers and 520 kilometers, ensuring that drivers have ample distance coverage for their daily commutes or business travels.

The last update to the e-series was the release of the e2 Glory Edition in March 2024. Since then, BYD has shifted its focus away from combustion engine vehicles, instead concentrating on plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) and battery electric vehicles (BEVs). This strategic move has allowed the company to stay ahead of the curve in the rapidly evolving automotive industry.

In April, BYD reported selling a total of 380,089 new energy vehicles (NEVs), marking a 21.34 percent increase year-on-year. This impressive figure includes 372,615 passenger NEVs and 7,474 commercial NEVs, showcasing the brand’s versatility in catering to different market segments.

Overall, the BYD e7 represents a promising addition to the EV market, offering a practical and efficient solution for shared mobility services. With its competitive pricing, impressive range, and modern design, the e7 is poised to make a significant impact in the electric vehicle industry.
