BYD Launches Affordable Qin L EV Electric Sedan to Compete with Tesla Model 3
BYD, a Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker, has recently unveiled the Qin L EV pure electric sedan, positioning it as a direct competitor to Tesla’s Model 3. The Qin L EV is designed to appeal to a younger demographic by offering a similar size to the Model 3 but at a significantly lower price point.
The mid-size all-electric sedan is built on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0 Evo vehicle platform and comes equipped with free driver assistance features. With dimensions measuring 4,720 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width, and 1,495 mm in height, the Qin L EV boasts a wheelbase of 2,820 mm.
In terms of pricing, BYD offers the Qin L EV in three variants, with starting prices ranging from RMB 119,800 to RMB 139,800. This makes the Qin L EV significantly more affordable than the Tesla Model 3, which is currently available in China with higher price points.
The entry-level variant of the Qin L EV features a 46.08-kWh battery pack and offers a CLTC range of 470 km, while the higher-priced models come with a 56.64-kWh battery pack and a range of 545 km. All three variants are single-motor rear-wheel drive models, with varying power outputs and acceleration capabilities.
One standout feature of the Qin L EV is the inclusion of the God’s Eye C smart driving system, which offers advanced driver assistance features such as NOA (Navigate on Autopilot) on highways and expressways, automatic parking, and remote parking. The system utilizes a camera vision solution instead of LiDAR, making it a cost-effective choice for consumers.
In addition to its competitive pricing and advanced features, the Qin L EV also offers an on-board refrigerator that can cool to -6°C and heat to 50°C, catering to the comfort and convenience of passengers.
With the launch of the Qin L EV, BYD aims to capitalize on the success of its existing Qin family models, which have seen strong sales performance in recent years. The Qin family, which includes models like the Qin L DM-i and Qin Plus EV, has been a significant contributor to BYD’s NEV sales.
Overall, the Qin L EV represents BYD’s commitment to providing affordable and technologically advanced electric vehicles to the market, positioning itself as a formidable competitor to established players like Tesla. As the demand for electric vehicles continues to rise, BYD’s entry into the mid-size sedan segment with the Qin L EV is poised to attract a new wave of consumers looking for a compelling alternative to traditional gasoline-powered vehicles.
