BYD has expanded the availability of its Shark hybrid pickup truck to more markets, including Mexico, Panama, Brazil, and now Cambodia. The launch event in Cambodia took place on October 26 in partnership with Harmony Auto, where the model is known as the Shark 6. The starting price for the pickup in Cambodia is around $56,723.

At the event, BYD also showcased its DM (dual-mode) hybrid technology and the Shark’s V to L (Vehicle to Load) feature, which allows the vehicle to power external appliances. This move marks BYD’s entry into the Southeast Asian market and demonstrates the company’s commitment to expanding its presence globally.

The Shark pickup is based on BYD’s DMO platform, with dual electric motors powering the vehicle. The front motor generates 170 kW of power and 310 Nm of torque, while the rear motor produces 150 kW of power and 340 Nm of torque. This powertrain delivers over 430 horsepower, allowing the Shark to accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 5.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 160 kilometers per hour.

Equipped with a blade battery with a capacity of 29.58 kWh, the BYD Shark offers an NEDC battery range of 100 kilometers and a combined NEDC range of 840 kilometers. The pickup is set to go on sale in Australia on October 29, further expanding its reach in international markets.

BYD’s decision to launch the Shark in overseas markets first, such as Mexico, Panama, Brazil, and now Cambodia, reflects its strategic approach to introducing new models to diverse regions. While the pickup is not yet available in China, where restrictions on pickup truck models are prevalent, BYD’s focus on global expansion is evident in its recent market launches.

Overall, the BYD Shark hybrid pickup combines innovative technology with performance capabilities, making it a promising addition to the company’s lineup. With its expansion into new markets like Cambodia and upcoming availability in Australia, the Shark is poised to attract a wider audience of environmentally conscious consumers looking for a versatile and efficient vehicle option.
