BYD has recently introduced the Yuan Plus in Madagascar, where it is known as the Atto 3, marking a significant step in the company’s expansion across Africa. The Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer unveiled the model in Madagascar’s capital, Antananarivo, on October 9 in collaboration with dealer partner CFAO.
The Yuan Plus is BYD’s first all-electric SUV designed for the global market, with various overseas markets offering it under the Atto 3 moniker. Launched initially in China in February 2022, the model stands out as the first SUV built on BYD’s all-electric e-platform 3.0.
With the introduction of the Yuan Plus in Madagascar, BYD further solidifies its presence in the African market, having already entered 12 countries on the continent. The company aims to work closely with its partners to provide a diverse range of new energy vehicle (NEV) options to African consumers.
In China, the Yuan Plus is available in the Glory Edition, which debuted on March 4 this year at a starting price of RMB 119,800 ($16,930). Beyond China, BYD had previously launched the model in Rwanda in January and Tunisia in July as part of its global expansion strategy.
In September, BYD achieved remarkable sales figures, with a total of 419,426 NEVs sold, marking a 45.91% increase year-on-year and a 12.42% rise from August. Overseas markets accounted for 33,012 NEV sales in September, demonstrating a 17.74% year-on-year increase and a 4.96% uptick from August.
The BYD Yuan family, including the Yuan Plus, recorded sales of 45,618 units in September, a 38.84% surge compared to the previous year and an 8.15% increase from August. As BYD continues to expand its global footprint and introduce innovative NEV models, it remains on track to achieve its target of 6 million global deliveries by 2026, as projected by JP Morgan.
Overall, BYD’s launch of the Yuan Plus in Madagascar signifies the company’s commitment to sustainable mobility solutions and its dedication to expanding access to electric vehicles in Africa and beyond.
