BYD, China’s largest new energy vehicle (NEV) maker, has recently filed for the all-electric Sealion 05, hybrid Seal 05, and hybrid Seal 07 models, providing a glimpse into the company’s upcoming product lineup. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) in China has released a catalog of models that are open for public comment, including these new offerings from BYD.
The Sealion 05 comes in two purely electric versions, with both models being produced at BYD’s manufacturing facilities in Changsha, Hefei, Jinan, Zhengzhou, and Shenzhen. This five-seat SUV boasts dimensions of 4,520 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width, and 1,630 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,720 mm. The Sealion 05 is slightly smaller than the hybrid Sealion 05 DM-i, which features dimensions of 4,710 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width, and 1,690/1,720 mm in height, along with a wheelbase of 2,712 mm. Both electric versions of the Sealion 05 support a top speed of 180 kilometers per hour and are powered by a single electric motor with peak power options ranging from 140 kW to 160 kW.
In addition to the Sealion 05, BYD also filed for the hybrid Seal 05 and hybrid Seal 07 models. The Seal 05 is a plug-in hybrid sedan available in four versions, powered by an engine with a displacement of 1,498 ml and 74 kW. The Seal 07, on the other hand, is a plug-in hybrid SUV offered in four versions as well, with an engine displacement of 1,498 ml and 115 kW. The dual-motor version of the new Seal 07 features a more performance-oriented DM-p system, capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds.
BYD’s Seal lineup also includes models such as the Seal 06 GT, 2025 Seal sedan, Seal 07 DM-i, and Seal 06 DM-i, showcasing the company’s commitment to offering a diverse range of environmentally friendly vehicles. The Seal 07 DM-i, currently available for sale, was launched with BYD’s fifth-generation DM hybrid technology, while the Sealion 07 EV, the first model on the all-electric e-Platform 3.0 Evo platform, was introduced earlier this year.
