BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) recently unveiled its latest sales figures for new energy vehicles (NEVs) in May, showcasing the performance of various models and sub-brands within the company’s lineup. The Song family, Seagull, and Qin family emerged as the top three BYD lineups in terms of sales during the month.
The Song family models maintained their position as the top-selling BYD lineup, with a total of 74,949 units sold in May. This family includes the Dynasty series models such as Song L EV, Song L DM-i, and Song Pro DM-i, along with the Ocean series models like Song Plus EV and Song Plus DM-i. The Dynasty series Song models recorded sales of 34,384 units, while the Ocean series Song models accounted for 40,565 units.
Following closely behind, the BYD Seagull sold 60,131 units in May, marking a significant year-on-year increase of 70.01 percent. The Qin family models also performed well, with 46,746 units sold during the month.
The introduction of the Sealion family proved to be a success for BYD, with 33,790 units sold in May. This family saw a remarkable year-on-year increase of 893.82 percent, driven by the launch of the Sealion 07 EV in May 2024. The Yuan family, Seal, Han, Tang, Dolphin, Xia MPV, Chaser 05, and e2 also contributed to BYD’s overall sales performance in May.
In addition to the mainstream models, BYD’s premium Denza brand reported sales of 15,806 units, while the personalized sub-brand Fang Cheng Bao sold 12,592 vehicles. The ultra-luxury sub-brand Yangwang recorded sales of 139 vehicles, including the U8 SUV, U9 electric supercar, and U7 sedan.
Overall, BYD’s passenger vehicles, including the Dynasty and Ocean series, achieved a total sales volume of 344,033 units in May, representing a year-on-year increase of 9.16 percent. The Denza brand, Fang Cheng Bao, and Yangwang also contributed to BYD’s strong performance in the NEV market during the month.
With overseas sales reaching a new high of 89,047 NEVs in May, BYD continues to demonstrate its global presence and commitment to sustainable transportation solutions. The company’s innovative lineup of electric vehicles remains popular among consumers, driving growth and success in the increasingly competitive NEV market.
