BYD has recently unveiled the Sealion 05 EV, the latest addition to its Ocean series of electric vehicles. This compact electric SUV comes with a starting price of RMB 117,800 ($16,230) and is built on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0 Evo vehicle platform. The SUV boasts a length, width, and height of 4,520 mm, 1,860 mm, and 1,630 mm respectively, with a wheelbase of 2,720 mm.

The Sealion 05 EV is a rear-wheel-drive model powered by a permanent magnet synchronous motor. The entry-level version offers a peak power of 140 kW and a peak torque of 330 Nm, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds. On the other hand, the higher-priced variants provide a peak motor power of 160 kW and the same peak torque, reaching 0 to 100 km/h in 7.2 seconds.

Equipped with BYD’s lithium iron phosphate (LFP)-based blade battery, the Sealion 05 EV offers a CLTC range of up to 520 km. The entry-level version comes with a 50.05 kWh battery pack capacity, while the higher-priced variants have a 60.9 kWh battery capacity. The model supports fast charging, allowing it to go from 30 percent to 80 percent in just 18 minutes.

One of the standout features of the Sealion 05 EV is the inclusion of BYD’s God’s Eye C smart driving system. This system, known as DiPilot 100, offers advanced features such as NOA (Navigate on Autopilot) on highways and expressways. The smart driving solution does not incorporate LiDAR but utilizes a camera vision solution for its affordable models.

The launch of the Sealion 05 EV expands BYD’s Sealion family, which also includes the Sealion 07 EV and Sealion 05 DM-i. The Sealion family has been performing well, with 21,178 vehicles sold in the first two months of the year, contributing 3.40 percent of BYD’s NEV sales in the same period.
