BYD Seal U DM-i: The Best-Selling PHEV SUV in the UK Market

The BYD Seal U DM-i model, a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) SUV, has achieved a significant milestone in the UK market, with 10,000 units sold just ten months after its launch. This makes it not only the best-seller in BYD’s expanding UK model range but also the most popular PHEV in the country.

According to SMMT sales data, the PHEV segment is experiencing rapid growth in the UK car market, with sales increasing by 31.5% to 124,500 units in the first seven months of this year. BYD UK has also surpassed 30,000 sales overall since its introduction in 2023, establishing itself as the fastest-growing automotive brand in the UK.

The Seal U DM-i range offers both front and all-wheel drive options, as well as two battery capacities of 18.3 or 26.6kWh, providing up to 77 miles of all-electric range. The model features the DM (Dual Mode) intelligent plug-in hybrid system, which includes a 1.5-litre hybrid petrol combustion engine that only engages when necessary. Together, they offer a full tank range of 699 miles, equivalent to driving from Edinburgh to Paris.

To cater to different customer preferences, the Seal U DM-i is available with two battery capacities: 18.3 and 26.6kWh. The smaller battery is used in the front-wheel drive Boost and all-wheel drive Design models, offering electric driving ranges of up to 50 and 43 miles, respectively. The all-wheel drive Comfort model, equipped with the larger battery, can travel up to 77 miles on electric power alone.

Steve Beattie, Sales and Marketing Director at BYD UK, expressed his delight at the Seal U DM-i’s success, attributing it to the British public’s growing interest in the brand’s affordable new energy vehicles. With an expanding model range and a strong retailer network, BYD UK is well-positioned for future success.

In conclusion, the BYD Seal U DM-i has proven to be a popular choice in the UK market, reflecting the increasing demand for PHEVs. Its innovative design, efficient performance, and eco-friendly features make it a compelling option for consumers looking to transition to electric vehicles.
