BYD is set to unveil its flagship SUV, the Tang L, in both electric vehicle (EV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) variants. The Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) declared this on January 10, with the official reveal scheduled for January 17.
The Tang L is based on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0 for the EV version and BYD’s DM 5.0 PHEV technology for the PHEV variant. Teaser images and design sketches of the Tang L have already been released by BYD.
One interesting feature of the Tang L is a trim that comes with a drone docking station on the roof. The standard trims have dimensions of 5040/1996/1760 mm with a 2950 mm wheelbase, while the height including the drone docking station is 1970 mm.
The EV variant of the Tang L has a curb weight ranging from 2675 kg to 2967 kg and a towing capacity of 2000 kg. Two pure electric trims are available, one with a 500 kW permanent magnet synchronous motor and the other with a front AC asynchronous motor and a rear permanent magnet synchronous motor, both manufactured by BYD.
For the PHEV variants, a 115 kW 1.5T engine is paired with either a single electric motor or dual motors, providing maximum power outputs of 200 kW and 400 kW, respectively. The pure electric range for the PHEV models is between 135 km and 165 km.
The Tang L also comes with a range of optional features, including a panoramic sunroof, front bumper trims in different colors, rear bumper trims, a luggage rack, roof lidar, rear camera, and various rim shapes and wheel eyebrows.
Inside, the Tang L boasts a large floating central control screen, a D-shaped steering wheel, and an instrumental panel. The center console features a mobile phone wireless charging panel and cup holders, with seating capacity for seven people.
The information on the Tang L was sourced from the Chinese MIIT and Autohome. Stay tuned for the official unveiling of the BYD Tang L SUV in both EV and PHEV variants.
