BYD has officially filed for the Song L GT, a shooting brake-style pure electric vehicle that is set to join the popular Song family. The Song family, known for being BYD’s best-selling lineup, recorded a total of 59,026 units sold in June, solidifying its position in the market.
The Song L GT shares the same dimensions as the Song L EV, measuring 4,840 mm in length. This new model is currently undergoing the final regulatory steps for approval before it can be officially launched in China. The public has the opportunity to provide feedback on the model from July 17 to 23.
According to the filing with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the Song L GT comes in three different versions, with model numbers BYD7007BEVA3, BYD7007BEVA4, and BYD7007BEVA5. Despite being classified as a pure electric sedan in the catalog, BYD categorizes the Song L GT as a shooting brake SUV.
The specifications of the Song L GT include a length of 4,840 mm, width of 1,950 mm, height of 1,560 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,930 mm. The vehicle’s curb weight ranges from 2,120 to 2,380 kilograms, with a maximum speed of either 210 km/h or 225 km/h.
The Song L GT will be available in single-motor and dual-motor models, with peak motor power ranging from 160 kW to 230 kW. Production locations for the model include BYD’s factories in Changsha, Hefei, Jinan, Zhengzhou, Shenzhen, and Fuzhou.
The vehicle will be powered by lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries supplied by BYD’s battery unit, FinDreams Battery. Additionally, the inclusion of LiDAR in the model suggests advanced smart driving capabilities.
The Song family currently consists of the Song L EV, Song L DM-i, Song Pro DM-i from the Dynasty series, as well as the Song Plus EV and Song Plus DM-i from the Ocean series. The Song L EV, launched in December 2023, is the second shooting brake-style model by BYD.
With the Song L GT expected to focus on sportiness, it will be interesting to see how it compares to the existing models in the Song family. Stay tuned for more updates on the official release of the Song L GT from BYD.
