BYD to build 15,000 1-MW ultra-fast chargers with partners

BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) is set to revolutionize the electric vehicle (EV) charging landscape with the introduction of ultra-fast chargers capable of adding 400 kilometers of range to an EV in just 5 minutes. This groundbreaking technology will be made possible through collaborations with Xiaoju Charging and LongShine to build 10,000 and 5,000 1-MW chargers, respectively.

Xiaoju Charging, the charging infrastructure operator of Didi, boasts over 8,400 partner merchants and serves more than 34 million users. On the other hand, LongShine has a wide-reaching network that covers over 90 percent of public chargers in China, spanning across 400 cities.

BYD unveiled its ultra-fast charger supporting up to 1-MW charging power earlier this year, claiming it can add 2 kilometers of range to an EV in one second or an impressive 400 kilometers in just five minutes. This charging power surpasses that of Tesla’s latest V4 supercharger, which has a peak power of 500 kW.

To ensure the widespread deployment of these ultra-fast chargers, BYD will equip the charging stations with energy storage facilities. This innovative feature enables the 1-MW charging power to be achieved even in areas with insufficient power capacity. Currently, BYD has constructed over 500 1-MW charging stations, catering to more than 200 cities.

In April, BYD launched the Han L EV and Tang L EV, the first models to support 1-MW peak charging power. The market response has been overwhelmingly positive, with the Han L and Tang L selling 10,483 and 11,406 units respectively in their first month. This success has propelled the total April sales of the Han and Tang families to over 40,000 units.

The introduction of these ultra-fast chargers marks a significant milestone in the EV industry, making fast and convenient charging a reality for EV owners. BYD’s commitment to innovation and sustainability will undoubtedly shape the future of electric mobility, driving towards a cleaner and more efficient transportation ecosystem.
