BYD is set to unveil what is being touted as the world’s fastest-charging pure electric blade battery for construction machinery at the upcoming Bauma China construction machinery exhibition in Shanghai on November 26th.

According to leaked technical specifications, the new battery boasts a maximum current of 400 amps and operates on a 1500 V high voltage platform. Made of lithium iron phosphate, a signature of BYD, the battery comes in sizes ranging from 200 to 2500 kWh and offers an impressive 7000 charging cycle life. It is designed to function in temperatures ranging from -35°C to 65°C and can achieve a maximum charging power of 600 kW.

This groundbreaking battery is said to be the world’s first blade battery specifically designed for construction machinery. With innovative cell-to-body technology, it can seamlessly integrate into construction equipment. BYD claims that this battery sets a new standard for fast-charging capabilities in the construction machinery sector.

The development of this cutting-edge battery is a result of a collaboration between BYD subsidiary FinDreams and leading construction machinery manufacturer XCMG. As the largest construction machinery producer in China and the third largest globally, XCMG’s partnership with BYD signifies a significant step towards sustainable and efficient construction practices.

The partnership between XCMG and BYD began in early 2023, culminating in the establishment of Xuzhou XCMG Fodi Battery Technology Co., Ltd. in April of the same year. The first batteries from this collaboration were introduced in October last year, marking a significant milestone in the advancement of battery technology for construction machinery.

While BYD is spearheading innovations in battery technology for construction machinery, other companies like CATL are also forging partnerships with leading construction equipment manufacturers. CATL has collaborated with companies such as Yutong Heavy Trucks, Sany, and FAW Jiefang to develop cutting-edge battery solutions for the construction industry.
