BYD’s latest car carrier, the BYD Xi’an, is set to embark on its maiden voyage to Europe, carrying approximately 7,000 new energy vehicles (NEVs) to countries such as the UK, Italy, Spain, and Belgium. The Xi’an, which was named after the city in Shaanxi province, where one of BYD’s major automobile production bases is located, has a capacity of 9,200 vehicles.
The loading process of the NEVs onto the BYD Xi’an car carrier is currently underway, with models like the BYD Seagull and the BYD Song Plus DM-i being prepared for transportation. The vessel, which measures 219.9 meters in length, has a beam of 37.7 meters, a service speed of 19 knots, and boasts 16 decks for efficient loading and unloading operations.
This significant move comes as BYD continues to strengthen its presence in the European market since entering the passenger vehicle segment in September 2022. In April, the company surpassed Tesla in battery electric vehicle (BEV) registrations in Europe, marking a milestone in its overseas expansion strategy.
With a target of selling 5.5 million vehicles in 2025, including over 800,000 units in international markets, BYD is making strides towards becoming a key player in the global NEV industry. The company’s impressive sales figures in May, which saw a year-on-year increase of 15.27 percent in total vehicle sales and a 137.46 percent surge in overseas NEV sales, reflect its growing influence in the market.
As the BYD Xi’an sets sail for Europe, it joins the company’s existing fleet of car carriers, including the BYD Explorer No. 1, BYD Hefei, BYD Changzhou, and BYD Shenzhen. The BYD Shenzhen, with 9,200 standard loading spaces, is currently the largest vessel in the fleet.
In conclusion, BYD’s expansion into the European market and its commitment to sustainability through NEV transportation highlight its position as a leader in the global automotive industry. The BYD Xi’an’s maiden voyage represents a significant milestone in the company’s journey towards a greener and more connected future.
