BYD’s ultra-luxury sub-brand Yangwang has recently announced that it has officially started delivering its U7 sedan model, following its launch at the end of March. The U7 sedan, which has a starting price of RMB 628,000 ($87,370), is now being delivered to Yangwang’s stores across various Chinese cities.
This new model by Yangwang is aimed at the ultra-luxury sedan segment in China and competes with other high-end models such as the Nio ET7 and the Maextro S800, which is a collaboration between Huawei and Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group (JAC).
The U7 is available in both battery electric vehicle (BEV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) options, with the choice of four-seat or five-seat configurations. The dimensions of the U7 are 5,265 mm in length, 1,998 mm in width, and 1,517 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,160 mm.
Powered by Yangwang’s e4 technology, the U7 features four electric motors, each with a peak power of 240 kW, resulting in a total power output of 960 kW and a peak torque of 1,584 Nm. This powertrain allows the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds. The model also boasts the new DiSus-Z body control system, offering enhanced comfort and performance.
In addition to the U7, Yangwang also offers the U8 off-road SUV with a starting price of RMB 1,098,000, and the U9 electric supercar with a starting price of RMB 1,680,000.
Despite the challenging market conditions, Yangwang managed to sell 139 vehicles in May, with the U7 contributing 33 units to the total sales figure. This represents a year-on-year decrease of 77.14 percent but a month-on-month increase of 2.96 percent. The U8 and U9 models also made significant contributions to the overall sales performance in May.
With its lineup of luxury vehicles and commitment to innovation, Yangwang continues to make a mark in the Chinese automotive market. The delivery of the U7 sedan signifies another milestone for the brand as it seeks to establish itself as a key player in the ultra-luxury segment.
