Yangwang, the ultra-luxury sub-brand of BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY), has teased a new model based on its first car, the U8 off-road SUV, signaling its commitment to the luxury car market. The company recently shared two images of the U8L and hinted that the new model will be longer than the U8.
The U8L is set to make its debut at the upcoming 2025 Shanghai auto show. This marks the first mention of the U8L, and while Yangwang did not disclose any further details, they suggested that the model will be larger than the standard U8.
Scheduled from April 23 to May 2, the Shanghai auto show will be the stage for Yangwang’s booth at 8A02 in Hall 8.1H. Yangwang, introduced by BYD on January 5, 2023, targets the high-end luxury car market with prices around RMB 1 million ($137,050).
The U8, Yangwang’s inaugural model, was launched on September 20, 2023, with an initial price of RMB 1,098,000 yuan. Measuring 5,319 mm in length, 2,050 mm in width, and 1,930 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,050 mm, the U8 has been a significant player in the luxury SUV segment.
The addition of the “L” to the U8L’s name suggests a longer wheelbase variant, a common practice in the Chinese market for distinguishing between different versions of a model.
In February 2024, Yangwang introduced the U9, a two-seat electric supercar with a starting price of RMB 1.68 million. Following this, on March 27, 2025, the brand unveiled its third model, the U7 electric sedan, priced at RMB 628,000 yuan.
Yangwang’s current lineup is based on its exclusive e4 technology and is powered by four electric motors generating over 1,000 horsepower. The brand recorded 133 deliveries in March, bringing total first-quarter deliveries to 524 and cumulative deliveries through March to 9,979 units.
The luxury car market is witnessing a surge in demand for high-end electric vehicles, and Yangwang is strategically positioning itself to capitalize on this trend with its innovative and luxurious offerings. Stay tuned for more updates on the U8L and Yangwang’s future endeavors at the Shanghai auto show.
