BYD, a leading Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker, has introduced its compact SUV, the Yuan Up, to the European market under the new name Atto 2. The company is set to launch the Atto 2 in Europe next month, positioning it between the Dolphin and Atto 3 in terms of pricing.
The Atto 2 is part of BYD’s lineup of SUVs and is being showcased at the Brussels auto show alongside eight other models. Its larger counterpart, the Yuan Plus (Atto 3), was the first model in the Atto series to be launched in overseas markets.
Initially launched in China in March 2024, the Yuan Up offers four variants with starting prices ranging from RMB 96,800 to RMB 119,800. The compact SUV boasts dimensions of 4,310 mm in length, 1,830 mm in width, and 1,675 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,620 mm.
The Atto 2 is expected to intensify competition in the European electric vehicle (EV) market, competing in the B-SUV segment against rivals like the Peugeot e-2008, Citroen e-C3, Opel Mokka-e, Fiat 600e, and Kia Niro. Additionally, Renault’s upcoming R4 is also expected to join the competition later this year.
While prices for the Atto 2 in Europe have yet to be confirmed, reports suggest that it will fall between the Dolphin and Atto 3 models. In the UK, the Dolphin starts at GBP 26,140, while the Atto 3 starts at GBP 37,140.
BYD’s expansion into the European market comes on the heels of a successful year in 2024, where the company sold over 4.2 million NEVs, marking a 41.26 percent year-on-year increase. Overseas sales also saw a significant surge, with 417,204 units sold in 2024, representing a 71.86 percent year-on-year increase.
With the Atto 2 set to make its mark in Europe next month, BYD is poised to further solidify its position as a key player in the global electric vehicle market. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development.
