BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has recently opened its first flagship showroom in Peru, signaling a significant move by the Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturer to expand its presence in the South American country. The new store, spanning over 1,000 square meters, is situated in the bustling La Molina commercial area of Lima, Peru’s capital.
Operated by BYD’s Peruvian distributor, Motorysa, the flagship store offers a range of services including customization, test drives, and after-sales support. This marks BYD’s entry into the Peruvian market with a strong foothold in one of Lima’s busiest districts. The company has also established stores in other key shopping areas such as Plaza San Miguel and Plaza Norte, enhancing its local sales network.
In conjunction with the store opening, BYD introduced the Yuan Up electric compact SUV in Peru. This sleek SUV boasts an NEDC range of 380 kilometers on a single charge and accelerates from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in just 7.9 seconds. The launch of the Yuan Up is part of BYD’s strategic partnership with Motorysa, which was announced last December. The collaboration includes the introduction of several models such as the BYD Song Pro, Tang, Seal, and BYD Shark in the Peruvian market.
Looking ahead, BYD plans to open six to seven additional stores in Peru in 2025, further expanding its reach across the country. The company’s commitment to the Peruvian market is underscored by its potential plans to establish an assembly plant in Peru, similar to its operations in Mexico and Brazil.
BYD’s shift towards producing plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) and battery electric vehicles (BEVs) has been evident since the company ceased production and sales of internal combustion engine vehicles in March 2022. This strategic pivot has propelled BYD’s NEV sales, with the company reporting a 24.78 percent year-on-year increase in NEV sales in March 2025.
In summary, BYD’s foray into the Peruvian market with its flagship showroom and the launch of the Yuan Up electric compact SUV signifies the company’s commitment to sustainable mobility solutions in the region. With plans for further expansion and potential local manufacturing, BYD is poised to make a significant impact on Peru’s automotive landscape.
