BYD, a prominent Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker, is set to expand its fleet of car carriers with the addition of a new vessel. The latest car carrier, built by Guangzhou Shipyard International Company Limited (GSI), was recently launched, according to a post on the semi-official Weibo account @小迪快报.
While the name of the new vessel was not disclosed in the Weibo post, it was revealed to be the sister ship of the BYD Hefei. This LNG dual-fuel car carrier measures 199.9 meters in length and has a beam of 38 meters. The vessel boasts a design draft of 9 meters and a design speed of 18.5 knots, setting the stage for efficient transportation of vehicles.
Notably, the BYD car carrier has a remarkable capacity, capable of accommodating up to 7,000 vehicles. This significant capacity underscores BYD’s commitment to enhancing its maritime capabilities to meet the growing demand for NEVs globally.
The BYD Explorer No. 1, the first vessel in BYD’s fleet with a capacity of 7,000 vehicles, marked a significant milestone for the company when it entered service in January 2024. Subsequently, BYD Hefei, BYD Changzhou, BYD Shenzhen, BYD Changsha, and BYD Xi’an joined the fleet, further solidifying BYD’s presence in the maritime transportation sector.
Each of these vessels plays a crucial role in facilitating the transportation of BYD’s NEVs to various destinations across the globe. From Europe to Brazil, these car carriers ensure the timely and efficient delivery of vehicles, supporting BYD’s mission to promote sustainable transportation solutions.
With the addition of the new car carrier, BYD continues to strengthen its position in the NEV market and reinforce its commitment to innovation and sustainability. The company’s strategic investments in maritime transportation reflect its dedication to meeting the evolving needs of customers and expanding its global reach.
As BYD looks ahead to a future powered by clean energy and sustainable transportation, its growing fleet of car carriers symbolizes a step towards a greener and more efficient automotive industry. The launch of the latest vessel underscores BYD’s vision for a cleaner, more sustainable future and its ongoing efforts to lead the transition towards electric mobility.
