CATL Unveils Revolutionary Freevoy Super Hybrid Battery
CATL, a leading player in the electric vehicle battery industry, has set a new benchmark with the launch of the Freevoy Super Hybrid Battery on October 24, 2024. This groundbreaking battery is the first of its kind to offer a pure electric range of over 400 kilometers and 4C superfast charging capabilities, signaling a new era for high-capacity EREVs and PHEVs.
The rise of EREVs and PHEVs in the new energy vehicle market has brought to light the challenges faced by consumers, including limited range, slow charging speeds, and reduced performance in low temperatures. CATL’s Freevoy addresses these issues head-on, providing hybrid vehicle drivers with a seamless driving experience.
Designed specifically for EREVs and PHEVs, the Freevoy eliminates the need for frequent charging, offering drivers the convenience of a single charge lasting an entire week’s commute. Additionally, it boasts impressive charging speeds, delivering over 280 kilometers of range in just 10 minutes of charging, effectively putting an end to range anxiety for hybrid vehicle owners.
The technological advancements behind the Freevoy are truly remarkable. Gao Huan, CTO of CATL’s China E-car Business, shed light on the innovative features of the Freevoy during the launch event.
One of the key technologies incorporated in the Freevoy is the surface modification technology for the cathode material, combined with a high-voltage electrolyte formulation to create a nano protective layer. This minimizes side reactions within the active layer, enhancing the transport efficiency of lithium ions within the material.
Furthermore, CATL’s state-of-the-art SOC full-scene high-precision model, along with the upgrade of BMS intelligent algorithm and hardware, has increased the SOC control accuracy of the Freevoy by 40%. This, in turn, has boosted the overall pure electric utilization rate by more than 10%, resulting in a pure electric range exceeding 400km.
CATL’s 4C ultra-fast charging technology has also been integrated into the Freevoy, enabling drivers to achieve over 280 kilometers of range in just 10 minutes of charging. The battery’s innovative design, including cathode fast ion conductor coating technology and a brand-new ultra-high conductivity electrolyte formulation, ensures a charging experience on par with pure electric vehicles.
In addition to these advancements, CATL has leveraged sodium-ion battery technology in the Freevoy to overcome low-temperature limitations often faced by new energy vehicles. The battery can function in extreme cold environments down to -40 degrees Celsius, ensuring a seamless driving experience even in harsh weather conditions.
To further enhance the Freevoy’s performance in low temperatures, CATL has implemented three key technological innovations centered around sodium-ion battery technology. These innovations include a unique AB battery system integration technology, a full temperature range accurate BMS technology, and a comprehensive reliability management and evaluation system.
The Freevoy has already been adopted by several prominent brands in the industry, with plans to launch 30 hybrid vehicle models equipped with CATL’s revolutionary battery by 2025. This marks a significant step forward in the advancement of hybrid vehicle technology, paving the way for a more sustainable and efficient future on the roads.
